Mac save dialog hangs, no cancel

when trying to save a file to a directory containing links to an unmounted/unavailable share, the save dialog eventually times out with a message saying "fix & try again" with NO OPTION TO CANCEL. to escape infinite loop, oo must be force quit, losing everything entered...UNSAT!-|
