Apache OpenOffice is not a universal file opener. For PDF files you should use a dedicated pdf reader, such as Adobe Reader, which is probably already on your computer. Right click on a pdf file, select Open With, navigate to Adobe Reader and ensurer that "always open with this application" is checked before you click OK. All pdf files will thereafter open in Adobe Reader.

Apache Open Office does not, without an additional extension, open PDF files.
Your signature shows that you are using OpenOffice 3.1, in which case the extension is at http://extensions.openoffice.org/en/pro ... noffice-3x
If your signature is inaccurate and you're actually using version 4 (or later), then the extension you want is at http://extensions.openoffice.org/en/node/17351

These extensions are really only intended for making trivial and cosmetic changes to pdf files. For serious reading of PDF files a dedicated reader is best. For major editing and reconstruction of pdf files there are some shareware applications and some commercial applications.

Please provide details about what you're doing that you think should cause the files to open in AOO. If there is an error message, provide a screen shot of the error message or an exact quote of the message.

Open AOO and use the File, Open menu options. If double-clicking the file itself does not open the file it is because there are no file associations set within your operating system to tell it which application to use to open which file type.
