Account inactivity results in removal?

Post by pfortin »

Hi,

Just tried to login after a long absence on the forums and my account no longer existed. I first registered (according to the confirmation email) four years ago on 11/05/2003... I can't recall the last time I logged in. There was no problem getting the same account name, so all is good; but is there a time limit on inactivity?

Thanks,
Pierre

pfortin, we do remove on class of inactive accounts, and that is for people who register and then never activate their accounts. This is about 1 in 20 registrations at the moment. The two main reasons for this failure are (i) that they've mistyped their email addresses and (ii) they've got a SPAM filter on their email client that is junking the notifications. We send one reminder then after 7 days clear these accounts. Wherever practical, we try to contact these individuals fist, but ... and where they do email us asking what has happened we activate the account once we've established email dialogue.

The only active accounts that have posted that get "hit" are proven repeat SPAMmers.
