Apache OpenOffice Community Forum

After a hiatus of more than a year, yesterday i logged back to this forum. I was immediately struck by how s-l-o-w the forum's website was. I thought it was my laptop, even though other websites were responding "normally." To make doubly sure, I logged in using my desktop (a much more powerful machine) - with the same results. I figured yesterday was a "bad day" for the forum's website, so I waited overnight to see if the forum's website responds better. Today is no better than yesterday; I am not having slow responses from any of the other sites I visit - on both machines.

Am I missing something? Is there something I need to do? Am I the only one experiencing this (very) slow response when I use this forum's website?

Suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

I'm a guest here just like you. I don't think anyone here can fix whatever the problem is, or if anyone even knows what's causing it. This happens from time to time. I just open a new browser tab in Safari and do some other work, then check back on the forum page a few minutes later. Or I find some other things to do while pages load. Just now I washed some dishes.

It feels good to know the website is not singling me out because I took a one year+ vacation

As for your guestship, MrProgrammer, it can only be revered: sharing your knowledge and voluntarily helping others is a magnanimous quality.

I've asked the relevant people to have a look at the issue.

Seems improved now (09:22 UTC) - about 6 secs instead of 60 secs, but possibly more improvement to come?

Just (2025-01-13 11:06 UTC) reloaded THIS topic.
The reload needed >20 s. That's uncommon for me. A few days ago such a reload was finished next to instantly.

Response times vary considerably, from <5 s to >60 s for loading this thread here.

Yes, it seems to have slipped back to about 20 seconds (by counting hippopotamuses).

I've restarted the php and web services on the box.

It seems to have been trouble involved the wiki.

If anyone wishes to help be a sysadmin know that you need to be a committer to the Apache OpenOffice project before you can join the Sysadmin team.

Still slow - about 22 secs per page.

I see. It may be a few hours before I can get back to figuring out what is happening with syntax highlighting on the wiki (which shares resources with the forum)

Whatever was slowing things down seems to have cleared. Yeah \8/

Currently I check my emails once or twice a day, but am much more connected on the asf slack. If some of you would like an invite we do have #openoffice channel.
