I have been printing labels from Writer + Base for years without problems. Now suddenly there seems to be a problem with updating links, and I don’t think I have changed anything:
- I open the Writer file (.odt) containing the labels template
- (I think it asks already here ‘Update all links?’ – Yes)
- I select File>Print
- Window appears: ‘Print a form letter?’ – Yes
- The dialog appears, showing the tables and queries from Base (so there is a connection to the DB)
- I select the appropriate query (normally already highlighted)
- Window appears: ‘Update all links?’
- The new problem is that this window appears many, many times and I have to reply Yes many times (perhaps >100 times – fewer times for cases with small number of records in the appropriate query) before being able to escape
- Eventually the Print dialog appears
- After replying OK, the labels appear, but all labels contain identical data: the data for the first lablel (and there are far too many pages of labels).
I have no idea what is wrong, and I don’t think I have changed anything.
Can anyone please help?
Regards
Roger

Re: Labels from Writer+Base: ‘Update all links?’ asks repeatedly
Hi, and welcome to the forum. Please search first before posting. Search found 118 matches: "update all links"
Issue 127582 - Needless to have "Update links" dialog prompt
If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit ☐ button and add [Solved] to the start of the Subject field. Select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

Re: [Issue] Labels from Writer+Base: ‘Update all links?’ asks repeatedly
Thanks, MrProgrammer for the suggestion. I had searched before posting, but the titles are often not specific enough.
To repeat: The problem is, that I have to reply to 'Update all links' for each page of labels (dozens of pages!).
However, I looked through the 118 titles about 'Update all links'. Again, the titles are not very helpful (e.g. 'Help required' (!)).
Anyway, I was relieved to find a posting by MichaelWild who has had the same problem, and it gave me the idea that it also coincides with updating to OO 4.1.15. He suggests going back to 4.1.14.
I have 2 questions:
1. When I try to install 4.1.14, it says I have to uninstall 4.1.15. I am reluctant to do this, as I don't know if all my queries, forms and reports in Base will survive. Do I have to save these and replace them somehow? (I am using the ’Split database’ option).
2. I can't imagine how the update to 4.1.15 has happened. All of the other users are non-technical and have no inclination or knowledge to do it - and I have not. Can OO make automaic updates (without having to download and install)?
Anyway, for the time being I will keep on clicking that mouse those dozens of times - at least it works!

Re: [Issue] Labels from Writer+Base: ‘Update all links?’ asks repeatedly
Reading the issue, it is reported against 4.1.4 and is not marked resolved. The target is 4.2.0, which is not yet available. I interpret that to mean that the difficulty exists in 4.1.4 and all later 4.1.n releases. I decline to test if the problem occurs in 4.1.14, but go ahead if you want. If it were me, and I were having trouble with Update all links?, I would return to OpenOffice 4.1.3, or switch to LibreOffice. Check the Beginners forum for more information about LibreOffice.
No. All you are updating is the OpenOffice program. All of your data is in your files. For Base queries/forms/reports/data, those are your ODB files or your external database files. All of your OpenOffice settings are in your user profile. Updating the program does not touch your files or your user profile.
No version of OpenOffice performs updates for you. It can check for updates, but downloading and installing them are tasks that you perform.
Fix your forum signature in User Control Panel → Profile → Edit Signature. It claims that you use OpenOffice 3.4.0 on Windows XP. This is clearly not the case. I will not help further until you've done that.

Re: [Issue] Labels from Writer+Base: ‘Update all links?’ asks repeatedly
Please note, that Issue Issue 127582 - Needless to have "Update links" dialog prompt refers to Calc, not Writer. In Calc the problem is indeed present since 4.1.4, in Writer I can confirm, that it was not around in 4.1.11 or earlier. I didn't check any other version between 4.1.11 and 4.1.15.
However, since the release note mentions CVE-2012-5639: Loading internal / external resources without warning it seems plausible, that the problem was introduced in that release.
By the way, has anyone raised a bug report for this? I just came across the same issue and couldn't find a relevant one.

Re: [Issue] Labels from Writer+Base: ‘Update all links?’ asks repeatedly
SOLVED: I (at last) had time to do what the posting by MichaelWild suggests (who has had the same problem, and it gave me the idea that it also coincides with updating to OO 4.1.15. He suggests going back to 4.1.14.).
I installed 4.1.14 and the repeated 'Update links?' query disappeared: it only appears once, as it always used to.
So there must be a bug in 4.1.15. I will see if I can find out how to report it.
Thanks everyone for help. Regards- Roger.
