Recover deleted document on USB drive

I had a long journal of my mom's journey through dementia. I saved it on a thumb drive and when I transfered it to my desktop it has lost all but the last two pages. It was deleted off the thumb drive. Is there any way at all that I can recover the rest of the document? Thank you.

There is software like PhotoRec to undelete any files not already overwritten. Create a backup of the thumb drive first, and don't write anything to that drive. Then use Photorec and make sure you have enough space where photorec can put the found data ...

PS Do regular Backups of all valuable stuff in the future...
