Hello, I'm having some trouble lately with OpenOffice on a new computer. There's this feature that I don't know how to turn off where when I hit the single apostrophe key, it doesn't appear until I either hit the spacebar or press any other key, and if it happens to be a vocal, say u, I get an umlaut like ú. I never use umlauts and I'd like the apostrophe to appear immediately when I press the apostrophe key like it was in my old openoffice writer set up. Would vastly appreciate any help!
Alternately, if anyone knows how to save whatever the configuration I have for my old office is to some sort of template that I can then send to the new computer and have the new office automatically adjust to all my old paramaters and options, that'd be even better!

Hi and welcome to the forum!
Isn't it a feature from the operating system? Does it happen in other applications too?
For the profile, you can copy the whole of it, see: [Tutorial] The OpenOffice User Profile. Beware of the /backup folder that can be heavy if you have activated that feature (you can dismiss its content then).

Perhaps the culprit is the United States-International keyboard layout?
See this article (section "Creating international characters").

The description of the problem does suggest that the keyboard layout may be set to US-International instead of US.

Thank you gentlemen for all your help, you were absolutely right, it was set to international english. Once I knew the problem I was able to solve it by looking up intl.cpl on the start menu, going to the change keyboards tab, and removing international english.
