I have two files and when I try to open them it says they are locked. I can either open a read only file or a copy.
It also shows that two files exist with the names .~lock.filename
1) what has happened, and how can I fix it?
2) I have opened copies and save them under new names. Can I just delete the originals and rename the copies with the old names and be good to go?
Thanks.

Openoffice 4.0 on Windows10
Re: Two files are locked. Why is that?
The .~lock files show that OpenOffice did not remove those housekeeping files when the documents were last closed. That could happen if your computer crashed or was rebooted while the the files were open, of if OpenOffice crashed, or other similar events. You can just delete the .~lock files and your original files will be fully accessible. You can also just work with the copies you made.
OpenOffice 4.1 on Windows 10 and Linux Mint
