Video in Writer Problem

Post by HOOT »

Hello, while in Writer, I tried inserting a video, but that didn't work, so I tried through Media Player, and that didn't work either. I uploaded the video to MP, and it worked, showing the video and the green check mark, but when I clicked the green check to apply the video, a gray question mark filled the box where the video should be. After inserting the video, the same gray question mark is where the video should be. I would surely appreciate any guidance in resolving this problem. Thank you, and Happy New Year!

Why do you insert a video in Writer? Have you tried in Impress?
You mean that the video shows in the media player (MP)?
What is the file format?
What OS and AOO version? Your signature tells OOo 3.2 on Windows XP, which is pretty outdated.

What do you mean by "didn't work"? Have you made sure the format is supported/ in the dropdown list of file types when you click on insert menu/insert movie and sound.

Thank you for the input.

When I read how to insert a video in a text document, there were two options: Insert from Movie and Sound or Media Player (MP). I successfully uploaded my video to MP. I could see the video, and MP verified it by providing a green checkmark. After clicking the green check, the video should be displayed. Instead, a window with a gray question mark is shown. It appears the page needs formatting, but there was no mention of formatting in the instructions.

What next?

I've been using the text document to make descriptive PDF packages for years. It looks like I need to familiarize myself with the presentation portion.

I've tried an MP4 - not supported in OO Writer, plays in LibreOffice - but terribly, not smoothly.
And a WMV file doesn't play well in either, OO froze up.

It looks like video is not very well supported.
