[Solved] Text copied from Writer not shown in Word

Post by wdc »

I live in a facility with a communal Dell PC (with W10) and an HP printer. I also have my own laptop (with W11), on which I use the OOWrite app. I compose messages using OOW and then print them on the communal printer. That process no longer works for me.

I now find that a block of OOW-generated text (obtained by a Ctrl-C and dropped by a Ctrl-V) does not show on the Dell WORD app.

Can someone spot what my problem might be? Has WORD changed recently to
reject OOW text? I doubt it.

Perhaps I should install OOWrite on the Dell? I assume itis allowed for one user to have two copies of the app? If so, would someone please remind me how to download a copy of OOW? Thanks. ...... wdc

A small sample file would aid solution of the problem.

How do you transfer the text exactly? From your machine to the communal one, there must something.
The best would be to export your file as a PDF and then print that file on the communal machine.

What's in the block of text - are there OO specific features apart from plain text which might not copy? You could try saving that block of text as an rtf file and then open it again (in Word) and insert that into your other Word document.

Look at the bottom right of any page on this forum where it says "Get OpenOffice". Click on the OpenOffice logo beneath those words to go to the download page. Make sure to read the installation instructions that are linked from the download page.

I guess that the communal machine has some restrictions for software installation, else, why the hassle?

RoryOF, Hagar Delest, Je Je, Robleyd: Thank you all for your responses. It turns out I never should have posted my issue. After getting your suggestions, I reviewed my actions and found that everything works as it should. I am chagrinned. Sorry.

I'll be more careful next time. .... wdc
