[Solved] OpenOffice database crashes every time I try to open it
[Solved] OpenOffice database crashes every time I try to open it
Was working fine and then crashed. Restarted program, recovered the database but now when I try to open the Tables it sits and spins for a second and the whole program shuts down. I have created backups and have the Autosave on every 5 min. I uninstalled and reinstalled the program with no avail. Please help.

Hi and welcome to the forum!
Try to reset your OpenOffice user profile.
If no change, try LibreOffice. See: [Tutorial] Considering a Switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice? Some Useful Information.
Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the 🖉 button if your issue has been fixed.

If you created this backups before the crash happened, try to open a new copy of your backup. If you created the backup after the crash, it may not help much, but you may rename a copy to .zip and check, if contents are available inside.
If you used an embedded database the problem is you data being unpacked to a temporary place on opening and packed (compressed) back on closing. On a crash this may not work properly. (Therefore you will find some threads here on using split-db, where data is not inside the .odb)

Every backup I try to open it won't open it. Going all the way back to 2022.Mountaineer wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 9:17 amIf you created this backups before the crash happened, try to open a new copy of your backup. Then there is a big problem.
Can you share the file somewhere so that someone can have a look at it? If no sensitive data.

How would I go about doing that? I don't see an attachment option on here.Hagar Delest wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 7:24 pm Then there is a big problem.

There is one (see How to attach a document here). But limited to files up to 128KiB.
Use a third party web site for file sharing.

My file is too large so I tried a file sharing service. Not sure if this works, but here goes.

Re: OpenOffice Database Crashes Every time I try to open it
I was able to recover the DATABASE TABLES from file, so you can 'see' them on your computer.
Download the file from the link below:
Link to operational / fixed database file removed by Sliderule 2024-02-05
I would suggest, you change the above file to a NEW name, so, when you try it in OpenOffice / LibreOffice, you can confirm it is what you need. The file ( number of bytes ) is smaller that what you had before, because I also did a checkpoint defrag to shrink the size of the internal database.
Please note, below is a list of your tables and the number of records in each:
After you tested the above file, AND, confirm it is solved / works, I will delete my version of the file on MediaFire.
