I finished installing OpenOffice 4.1.14 on Xubuntu 22.04.3 LTS. When I enter " in terminal openoffice4"
it says "/usr/bin/openoffice4: 22: exec: /opt/openoffice4/program/soffice: not found"
I removed Libre before I started. OpenOffice is not listed in the application opener.
This is the last part of the install in terminal:

Re: New install won't open on Xubuntu 22
Hi and welcome to the forum!
Have you installed the debs that were in ~/Downloads/en-US/DEBS?
You need to install them before installing the packages in the desktop-integration folder.

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the 🖉 button if your issue has been fixed.

You might find Installing the packages helpful. In particular, after extracting/unpacking the downloaded file,
From your information above, you are working in ~/Downloads/en-US/DEBS/desktop-integration - you should be in ~/Downloads/en-US/DEBSa new folder will be generated. Inside this folder you'll find a folder named RPMs or DEBs, depending on the package you downloaded. Move to that folder and open a virtual terminal there.

There are two steps, the first is to run the dpkg command in ~/Downloads/en-US/DEBS, then to CD cd in that folder to desktop-integration and run the dpkg command again.
For confirmation: when correctly installed as in above hints and in the link robleyd gives, OO runs on Ubuntu 22.04.

Edit: cd command, as all commands etc in linux, is case sensitive. Corrected inadvertent error. |

Re: New install won't open on Xubuntu 22
You're running sudo dpkg -i *.deb in the wrong directory. Your terminal is open in the desktop-integration directory which does not have the core packages for installing AOO. While in the desktop-integration directory, type the command "cd .." (without the quotes) to move up to the DEBS directory, then run sudo dpkg -i *.deb to install the core packages. When that completes, then type "cd desktop-integration" to move to the desktop-integration directory, then run sudo dpkg -i *.deb to finish the installation.StrobeWylan wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 5:04 am

Re: New install won't open on Xubuntu 22
Thank You Bill, and RoryOF and robleyd. I got it running and could not have done it without YOU.
I have tried to do this for many years, ever since they removed it from the Ubuntu "Software" app.
Libre was never as good for what we needed and OO is perfect. I had used it for at least 20 years and when that computer crashed last winter I was forced to use Libre, but it's so different and frankly was harder to use than installing OO turned out to be (but only with your help).
I will attempt to mark this solved. Hope I can figure that out---LOL
Thanks again!

Not sure what was wrong with my recommendation but well, you got it fixed.
You should read again the tutorial (the one provided by RoryOF is the very same I gave) to understand what you copy and paste in your terminal.
