Creation of tmp files on Windows 10

I a recuring problem. A random creation of TMP files up to 70000. Created on the same day and about the same time. My anti virus software shows np problem andI have reinstalled OP a couple of time, to no effect. Help Please

In what way is it related to OpenOffice? Does it occur only when opening spreadsheets with Calc?

Yes I think so. I do not use writer very much but calc most days

Do the temp files get created at the same time as you run OpenOffice? Do they vanish when OpenOffice is closed?

If you run Windows in Safe Mode, are they then created when you run OpenOffice?

Where are they? If they are in a temp file location ignore them.

Also: can you describe your Calc files? Are they simple sheets of calculation, or are they collections of inserted items, such as pictures?

Until we know where they are we don't even know if they are created by AOO.

I received the following details from the OP

They are created when using Calc and are not deleted on exiting OPen
Office. The spreadsheets are just numeric. I cannot send one of the temp
files as I deleted the last lot. They show as 0 content

We need to clarify; if you make a new Calc file (very simple - something in one cell) do tmp files get created? This is to establish that the problem attaches to Calc, not to existing files being edited.

It would also be helpful to know if the tmp files are generated on starting Calc, or on Saving a Calc file.

I will try what you suggest. As it is the TMP files are not created every
time I use Calc, it seems rather random. When they are created it can be
many thousands 60,000 - 70,000 created on the same day and about the same
time

I think it might be time for two diagnostics: one is to look for Malware - MalwareBytes is well regarded. The other diagnostic is to update the computer's anti-virus and run an indepth virus scan (may take all night).

AOO does not create thousands of temporary files. Look for something else.

Test by starting the PC in Safe Mode. Does it still do it? If not, identify which of the programs which start when the PC starts is doing it.

It's an OS problem not an AOO problem so you are in the wrong forum. Search the web with thousands temporary files. Windows Defender has been known to do it.

I found a number of instances of multiple tmp file creations on various Windows and malware help sites; too many possibilities to make a decision on a specific cause.

It's a bit hopeless trying to help the poster as they don't give the file names nor where the files are being created so it's just guesswork. I'm out.
