[Solved] Can't open multiple docs at once in LibreOffice?
[Solved] Can't open multiple docs at once in LibreOffice?
Hello,
When I try to open multiple documents from within LibreOffice, I get a message saying the "path" to those documents does not exist? I can open them singly, one at a time, but not in bunches?
Thank you,
John

Ye, you can do it - if the document really exist on the path with same file name what was recorded in the Recent list.
(I suppose, you have tried to open a document from the Recent list, and maybe you renamed, deleted or moved the document from the original place...)

Re: Can't open multiple docs at once in LibreOffice?
Works fine on my LO 7.0.3.1 version on Xubuntu.
In the Open file dialog, I Ctrl+select different files and they do open. They are on my HD. Are your files on a network? It may trigger issues with the paths.

Hagar Delest:
I'm doing that: control + select for the files, and no, they are not on a network: they're stored on my MacBook Air.
Zizi: I haven't changed the names of the files. I never open from the 'Recent' list (I'm not even sure how to do that): I open them from the folder they're in on my computer. Except: I DO rename them from 'Untitled' when I'm first saving them in Writer?
Thank you both for replying! Again: I can open files singly, but not multiple files at once.

Re: Can't open multiple docs at once in LibreOffice?
I can select and open more than one documents to open in same opening process - in the Open dialog box of the LibreOffice 6.1.6.3.
File - Open - Browse your files in a (one!) desired directory - Ctrl-Select or Shift-Select on the file names - Open.
I am using the Dialog boxes of the OpenOffice instead of the Dialog boxes of the System. You can choose it in the Setting of the LibreOffice.

Re: Can't open multiple docs at once in LibreOffice?
Note that this option is not available in the Linux version of OpenOffice, but is in the Linux version of LO that I use. So it may not be an option for OpenOffice on Mac either.
Edit: See further posts below; the option is not available on AOO on Linux systems using the KDE window manager. |

Re: Can't open multiple docs at once in LibreOffice?
I tried on my Windows 10 machine and it works fine also (4 documents opened at once).
I moved the topic to the Mac forum, it may be a Mac issue.

In OpenOffice running on Linux, on /Tools/ Options /OpenOffice /General, there is an option to use OpenOffice dialogs for file Open/Save. Options is under Preferences on a Mac.robleyd wrote:Note that this option is not available in the Linux version of OpenOffice, but is in the Linux version of LO that I use. Re: Can't open multiple docs at once in LibreOffice?
LO7 on Ubuntu 18.4 with LO native dialog opens only the last selected document when selecting 4 or 5 files by Ctrl-click. With the Gnome file picker it opens all selected files as expected.
LO6.0 (ppa) and AOO handle multiple file selections properly with both dialog variants.

I did check before I posted, and these are the options I am presented with: Perhaps there is something about Slackware/KDE that is different from other distributions? The difference may be to do with the source of your OpenOffice - I am using a download deb version from the downloads page, and have had this screen in every version of Ubuntu/Xubuntu I ever used.

Re: Can't open multiple docs at once in LibreOffice?
If you use LibreOffice why doesn't your forum signature say that? (User Control Panel → Profile → Edit Signature) I don't use LibreOffice or Big Sur. I cannot reproduce your problem with OpenOffice 4.1.7 on MacOS 10.14.6. I tried with both settings from Q37: Why doesn't my file open/save dialog look like examples on the forum?. With either setting I can open multiple documents in the File → Open dialog.yohejohn wrote:When I try to open multiple documents from within LibreOffice, I get a message saying the "path" to those documents does not exist? Or it could be a LibreOffice issue, related to the changes referenced in the previous post.Hagar Delest wrote:I moved the topic to the Mac forum, it may be a Mac issue.

I've tried a quick search on the net but it didn't yield anything.
Maybe a question to be posted on AskLibreOffice or the LO mailing list.

Re: Can't open multiple docs at once in LibreOffice?
Use of KDE system dialogs isn't supported by AOO. In the past I've tried Manjaro KDE and Kubuntu. The option to use system dialogs in AOO was missing from both of them.robleyd wrote:Perhaps there is something about Slackware/KDE that is different from other distributions? Thanks - I don't need or want the system dialog, but it is useful to know that the issue exists for KDE.

.Re: Can't open multiple docs at once in LibreOffice?
Thanks all.
The problem seems to have been resolved in a 'sideways' manner, when I set up my computer to open .odt and .doc and .docx files to open in LO when I click on them, before I've opened LO.
I can now open multiple documents with LO either way: by clicking on the desktop files, AND from within LO using the 'open' command.
