OpenOffice DOCX/XLSX compatibility with MacOS

When opening Excel xlsx files or docx files attachments, Open 0ffice cannot open the files and an error message is produced " open Office quit unexpectedly " then sends off a crash report.

There doesn't seem to be an update to 4.1.8

Any ideas please?

( I can open these apple files though using Numbers and Pages - but want to stay with Open Office!)

I am on iOS 11.1 on Mac Mini 2020 M1 processor Open Office 4.1.8

NB Libre Office opens the files ok though
