[Solved] OpenOffice 4.1.7 Just installed Will Not Open

I am using an HP laptop running Windows 10.
I have been using Open Office for several years and have been quite happy with it. But it now won't open and there are no error messages.
In my search for answers I found that Open Office 4.1.7 is the latest version so downloaded it. BUT once it was installed I am having the same problem with it. Won't open. HELP

I am having similar difficulties. I tried to download 4.1.7 with Webroot as my virus protection. When the app tried to extract the Startup file it failed. I disabled Webroot and also disabled Defender and it still would not complete the install.
I was able to download and install 4.1.7 but when I try and do an update, this also fails to find the server.

Any suggestions? I am running Win 10 Home on a Lenovo 310S

Don't worry about it not finding the server. Download the latest version from
http://www.openoffice.org/download/

OpenOffice does not do incremental updates, so you would have to download the full version anyway.

When I try and download from the link provided, that's when I get the failure to extract the Setup .exe file. The 4.1.6 is the version that will not update.

If the download has completed satisfactorily - there are checks one can make, detailed on the download page below the selection mechanisms - click on "How to verify the download" - but a quick (and dirty) check is that the downloaded file is about the correct size; close to 135MB for en_US Windows version, then the "unable to find/extract setup.exe" message is from your operating system. Possibly Windows Defender, possibly controlled folder access, possibly missing Administrator rights.

The download check seem to be correct. During the installation an Extraction error occurred during the "Notice" portion.

Any ideas?

Almost certainly Windows Defender or Controlled folder Access if Windows 10, or a firewall/antivirus setting on Windows 7.

I am running WIN 10 on a Lenovo 310S. MS Defender is OFF and the virus protection I use is Webroot.

I am going to try to install by disabling Webroot during the install to see if that helps.

Turned OFF Webroot and tried to install with out Defender enabled. Extraction error on 'readme_en-US.html

Sounds like you got a bad download. Try downloading the installer again.
You said earlier that the download check "seemed" correct. There is no two ways about it... It either is correct or it isn't. The messages displayed using the various types of checking are plain.
There are instruction on how to verify the download at https://www.openoffice.org/download/che ... ml#pgp_win
If the signature matches the file it is indicated with an "Good signature from <Person who has created the signature> statement.
Otherwise with "BAD signature from ...".

Alternatively you could check using https://www.openoffice.org/download/che ... l#hash_win and get one of these messages:
When both hash values match a dialogbox shows "Checksums match". Otherwise "Checksums do not match".

I have never had a corrupted download of any downloaded file in all my years of computing. Do the following:

1. Delete C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice. It is a hidden file.
2. Download AOO from http://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html.
3. Double click the downloaded file.

Now describe exactly what happens and the exact words of any message you get.

You're not supposed to open the file. You're supposed to compare the calculated Hash value to the value published by AOO. Go to the AOO download page. Just below the Download buttons, you should see links that you can click to display the published SHA256 and SHA512 values. You need to calculate the SHA256 or SHA512 Hash value for comparison.

I understand what you are saying. Just as a test I downloaded and installed version 4.1.7 on my WIN 7 laptop running Webroot. It installed perfectly. I ran HashTab_v6.0.0.34 on both the WIN 7 and WIN 10 machines and got exactly the same hash tags as posted before.
It appears something in WIN 10 is causing the download to not execute properly. What is more confusing is the WIN7 machine had Webroot running, so this antivirus software does not have any effect on the download.

Still trying to get 4.1.7 installed.
